The editing process

  1. Send Access Editing a sample of your work, with an idea of what you need.
  2. Access Editing will provide an editing brief, a deadline and a quote.
  3. If it all looks great, give the go-ahead. If you’d like to tweak the brief, the timing or the price, get in touch and we’ll figure it out together.
  4. Access Editing will return your document on time along with a list of style decisions, explanations of editing decisions, and maybe even a tactful message about common errors found in the document. This will save you time and money for your next project, and it will help to make any related documents consistent with the edited document.

Access Editing can receive your project via email or a secure Dropbox.

Confidentiality is assured.

I’m mobile, and I work outside of standard business hours, so you can get in touch easily.

I don’t outsource. I’m the editor you’ll deal with at all stages.

I will edit to your preferred style guide, if you have one. My preferred style guide is the Australian Style Manual: for authors, editor and printers. I’m also familiar with APA style.

I generally work with Microsoft Word and track changes. I also work with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Visual Basic and Microsoft Excel. I like learning about new software, so please let me know if there’s a program you prefer.

If the changes are extensive, I offer my clients a second proofread after their author review. This is helpful when the author has accepted some editing suggestions but rejected others, which can introduce inconsistencies in the document. It is also helpful if there are queries or comments from the editor which have prompted the author to rewrite sentences or make structural changes. The fee for this service is lower than the fee for the initial edit.
